Hi, dear reader! I recommend you to take a deep breath, hope you do not have any anxiety issues because today I was lucky to borrow a time machine to travel to the Paleolithic Era and to show you all of the local features. I want tell you, that please, do not worry because everything works fine, at least that’s what the stranger told me. I hope then we will go back home as well. However, if not, you will not be stuck alone in that period 😊. Let's proceed…
Wow, I am glad that the turbulence did not smash our time machine. Now we have arrived at our destination, welcome to 10 000 years BC. Indeed, I want you to be careful, I mean there are a lot of different species of animals here, so for now it is better to look at this gorgeous forest and landscape from inside out time machine. By the way, I have opened a window, breath in as much as you can because I think you know how clean the air is.
So, let me explain what 10th millennium BC is about. First of all, it marks the beginning of the transition from the Paleolithic to the Neolithic via the interim Mesolithic (Northern Europe and Western Europe) and Epipaleolithic (the Levant and Near East) periods, which together form the first part of the Holocene epoch that is generally reckoned to have begun c. 9700 BC. During the Paleolithic Age, hominins (ancient people) grouped in small societies such as bands and subsisted by gathering plants, fishing, and hunting or scavenging wild animals. The Paleolithic Age is characterized by the use of knapped stone tools, although at the time humans also used wood and bone tools. I think now you are abreast a bit, so now we will fly and take a look at Neanderthals.
How about discoveries?
For instance, Neanderthals started to control fire, there has appeared early artistic talent and, also… really? Do you remember what I told you about the time paradox? You better not to take photos as it may affect ancient people and men in black will try to catch us. I think you saw that movie with Will Smith, right? Well, where did I stop… oh yea, and, also, there were first people in America. Moreover, what is very interesting it is how they made a fire. Neanderthals living in France, regularly started fires by striking flint with hard minerals like pyrite to generate a spark. Wow, look at the left side of the time cabin, can you see precisely that huge and enormous mammoth?
Mastodons, saber-toothed cats, giant ground sloths and other megafauna roamed. Stone Age humans hunted large mammals, including woolly mammoths, giant bison and deer. Can you imagine what would happen if you decided to go for a walk? Perhaps, you will be lucky enough not to meet any of them or if you do, you will remember it, despite a sloth, it seems peaceful.
Now, what if I told you that these ancient people have spoken in the English language a long time ago, exactly, 10 000 BC. I understand you, dear reader, it seems not logical and impossible but, nonetheless, after 1 500 BC(Chinese) and 3 200 BC (Sumerian and Egyptian languages) people decided to create a new language which will provide humanity with easy access to communication. That is why 10 000 BC the English language has taken its place in history. Unfortunately, we have to slowly finish our journey in 10 000 BC in order not to be noticed by local habitants, please, breath in and we come back…
That was soft and easy landing, welcome back to 21 century or should I say Cyberpunk 2077? To be continued…
To sum up, 10th millennium BC definitely was a time of certain achievements, such as crafting stone tools, developing agriculture, hunting, continued strong position of communication language – English and one of the most important, controlling of fire. Progress never sleeps, it moves forward.
